2022 Zeitgeist Trousseau Gris $34.94

Do I hear trousseau??? This is the "gray", or light red mutation of the red grape trousseau. Although trousseau originates from the Jura region of France, the majority of plantings of trousseau gris are in Sonoma, California. It produces white wine (although because of its gray mutation can produce wines with light amounts of red color) with body and bright acidity. Zeitgeist is a winery that prides themselves on vigorous sorting and only making the best wine from the best grapes, really embodying the ethos of the word "Zeitgeist", which means "spirit of the times". The trousseau gris grapes are sourced from the Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard in Russian River Valley, which is believed to be the LARGEST trousseau gris vineyard IN THE WORLD. How cool is that? Speaking of cool, the cool coastal influence of the Russian River Valley mimics the cool alpine climate of the Jura in France.

2023 Massican Annia $29.94

Massican is a producer that focuses on Mediterranean white wines from the North Coast. The Annia bottling is their flagship white referred to as "cal-ital" as is a blend of ribolla gialla and tocai friulano, both italian indigenous grapes, finished with chardonnay. They are harvested separately in French oak and stainless steel and then blended six weeks before bottling. The land is farmed either sustainably or organically and minimal intervention winemaking is implemented. They play really loud music while the grapes are being fermented and you can find their winemaking playlist on their website.

2022 Arnot-Roberts Trousseau $42.94

This is so exciting! I've been wanting to try this for so many years and haven't had the chance...until now. Trousseau being one of my favorite grapes, is grown on two vineyards in this bottling. The first vineyard is a high elevation (1400 ft) site in Lake County planted on volcanic soil. The other vineyard is in Russian River Valley at 800 ft in elevation on sandstone soil. Arnot-Roberts is a collaboration between two childhood friends who started with one barrel of wine in their basement. They focus on unique and site-specific wines ranging from cabernet sauvignon to touriga nacional and trousseau.

2022 Broc Cellars Love Red $21.94

Broc Cellars is a Berkley-based winery that specializes in easy drinking, approachable, everyday wines. Their objective is to move away from the big alcohol, big body wines that became the norm in California. They use organic grapes and harvest on the early side to retain acidity and keep alcohol and sugar down. They are natural winemakers, inspired by Terroir, the first natural wine bar in San Francisco. This is a blend of carignan, syrah, valdiguie, mourvedre, and grenache. The carignan and valdiguie, a rare French indigenous grape, are partially de-stemmed and partially whole cluster and go through partial carbonic maceration in stainless steel.

2021 Unti Vineyards Sangiovese $42.94

Unti is a family owned winery in Dry Creek Valley specializing in Mediterranean varietals. This is 100% sangiovese grosso, the same clone of sangiovese used in Brunello di Montalcino in Tuscany. They are organically farmed and apply organic compost as well. They describe themselves as "modern traditional winemaking" because they use modern technology combined with traditional winemaking methods such as minimal sulphur and native yeasts.

2021 Robert Biale Vineyards Royal Punishers Petite Sirah $57.94

Petite Sirah was 30% of all of Napa Valley plantings in the 1920's and dominated throughout the mid-1900's. It is dark and structured and perfectly suited to the warm Mediterranean climate of Napa Valley. During Prohibition, wineries had completely collapsed, yet Pietro Biale was on a mission to make wine. There wasn't enough money in wine, so Pietro had to take another job where tragically, he died, leaving his 13-year-old son, Aldo, to take over. Aldo learned how to make wine from his Uncle and would secretly sell his wine to friends and locals under the code name "Gallo Nero", selling the rest of the grapes to cooperatives. In 1991, Aldo's son, Robert, decided to create the family wine label. Although Aldo was retired at that point, he worked tirelessly with Robert to fulfill the family dream.
