I'm THRILLED to have my dancing sister Azi Amanzadeh teaching class as part of our special summer treat series. Azi and I have danced together for a decade, she's been a teacher since 2018. I can't wait to welcome her back to the floor. Come experience her wisdom and guidance. And I'll be dancing alongside you as a participant.
See you on the floor Friday. Bring a friend. xo Julie
5RHYTHMS® is a dance movement meditation accessible to anyone. A deeply healing cathartic experience of mind, body, heart, soul. We do this practice so that we can be more fully alive, authentic humans.
Join accredited 5RHYTHMS teacher, Julie Stuart, on a guided journey through the 5RHYTHMS: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical & stillness. This is a devotional & catalyzing practice that is both dance & moving meditation, a way of embodying our deepest authenticity, finding our edges & safely going beyond as we break patterns & move into new possibilites. In our movement we gain access to our inner and outer landscapes. In community we are held and witnessed in our exploration.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN A 5RHYTHMS DANCE:
You may initially wonder if you are doing it "correctly" or that other people will be watching but there is no right or wrong way to move your body. There is YOUR way. The more you allow yourself to be curious & open, listening to your inner guidance along with the teacher's invitations, the freer your dance becomes. This process may take a lifetime but its so worth it because what we learn on the dance floor is what we learn about ourselves in life. These discoveries translate directly into our lived experience.
We will dance, breathe, sweat, partner, confront our resistance again and again, laugh and/or cry, in a safely held container, and usually end up in a puddle feeling both empty and full at the end. We ride the waves in community held by the beat, letting go of what we don't need to emerge renewed, resourced and resilient.
You do not need prior dance experience. We welcome people of all abilities, ages & gender expression. We have chairs for seated dance.

WHAT ARE THE 5RHYTHMS®?
~~This description comes from Vehllia Tranne & Allesandro Murrozi, founders of City Waves - the Bay's 5Rhythms home. They granted permission to share it.
The 5RHYTHMS comprise simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in everybody, no matter what shape, size, age limitation and experience. To find your dance is to find yourself, at your most fluid and creative level. While the practice itself is the essence of simplicity, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: If you put the psyche in motion, it will heal itself.
The 5RHYTHMS are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. They come together to create the Wave, a movement meditation practice. Rather than having steps to follow, each rhythm is a different energy field in which you find your own expression and choreography, thereby stretching your imagination as well as your body. Each rhythm is a teacher and you can expect to meet different and sometimes unknown aspect of yourself as your dance unfolds and your practice of the rhythms deepens over time.
The rhythms are the foundation of Gabrielle Roth’s body of work, a series of healing maps for the body, heart mind, soul and spirit that provide a lifetime of self-discovery and a path to awakening. The 5RHYTHMS practice starts you on that journey and is the place to which you will always return.
What happens on the dance floor?
In every class or workshop, there is always a wide range of experience in the 5RHYTHMS- from first-timers to certified Wave aficionado. In any given class, the guide will be following the energy in the room. So, while the essential map is one of five rhythms, and might take the class trough the entire Wave or focus on just one rhythm or one facet of a rhythm.
The rhythms themselves are gateways to literally thousands of different movement landscapes. Like the body, they are alive and designed to catalyzed the dancer’s movement expression in the moment. You are different every time you walk into the room, so is the group and so is your teacher. Therefore, each class holds completely unique possibilities.
How do I start?
• Go at your own pace
• Be responsible for your own body (stay aware of injuries and limitations)
• Keep your eyes open to stay aware of others
• Move how you feel and stay open to changing
• Know that everything that is alive has a dance; find and express yours
• Enjoy yourself (excessive seriousness may slow you down)
