This is our last scheduled Duskmourn draft before Magic: Foundations drops!
How does Drafting Work?
Players are arranged by the Event Link Software into pods, usually with 7 other players. Each player is given three packs by the Tournament Organizer and when everyone is ready, each player opens a single pack. Players take out the basic land and the token from their pack (if they have one) and set those aside. Then, each player chooses a card from the pack and places it face down in front of them and then passes the remaining cards to the next player and that repeats until there are no more cards being passed around. It's helpful to pull cards that are built around a central theme or around a certain mechanic!
The first pack gets passed left, the second gets passed right, and the third pack gets passed left again.
After that, the players each take the 40-42 cards in front of them and try to build a deck from the cards they pulled during the Draft. Each player will build a deck that is at minimum 40 cards.
From those cards they drafted, they will select 24 to 26 or so of them that are non-land cards and then the other 16 to 14 cards will be lands that they either drafted or that came from our Basic Land Station.
Pairings are determined by the computer and told to the players via the Magic Companion App, which is also the best way to enter match results. Each Match is a series of games, and the victor is the player who wins best 2 out of 3 games! After that, each player continues playing and the software uses Swiss Pairings to pair players that have similar records.
With 8 players, we play three rounds and after that, we hand out packs from the prize pool. The prize pool includes promo packs from Wizards of the Coast as well as Play Boosters from Duskmourn! Two Play boosters per player (16 booster packs for 8 players) go into the prize pool and are distributed to slightly more than the top half of the field.
Time and Cost
Be here at 8! Draft is $30 per player, $27 for Game Club Members, and if you bring in your own packs to draft with (as long as they're Duskmourn and sealed), it's only $15 to cover Prize Support, $13.50 for Game Club Members!
