A very special guest joining the Co-Lab band of Carlos Pla, Curtis Edwards, Pieter Bos & Jason Wilcox is Mr Geoff Culverwell.Geoff Culverwell is a veteran New Zealand jazz trumpet player, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, educator, and recording artist. His career spans over four decades, with performances at international venues like Montreux Jazz Festival and London’s Ronnie Scott’s. He’s also been a member of three New Zealand super groups (Quincy Conserve, the 1860 Band, and The Rodger Fox Big Band).
A versatile musician, he plays trumpet, flugelhorn, flute, keys, and occasionally sings. He has recorded five albums as a bandleader and contributed extensively as a studio musician for film, television, and other artists. His Chet‑Baker tribute show gained acclaim for its lyrical horn and vocals, earning sold‑out performances at major jazz festivals.
Alongside performing, Geoff is committed to jazz education: he regularly leads workshops—such as during International Jazz Day in Whanganui—and shares deep insights into improvisation, harmony, and groove.
