About this Event
Difficulty: Moderate
Appropriate for: Anyone! (Only athletic dogs)
Leader: Sean Ahern
About Sean: Sean is a lifelong resident of the communities near to the Fells and is a lover of the outdoors. He's been visiting the Fells since he was a little kid and credits the Fells with keeping him sane during the pandemic. During the working week, Sean is an attorney for legal aid and a law school instructor. He likes to travel, explore new music, and is learning (very slowly) to play guitar.
About the hike: The hike will begin around Bellevue Pond. We will go up Quarry Rd, join the Skyline Trail at the D6-2 intersection, stay on that until the Cross Fells Trail at C5-16, which we can take until the C5-11 marker around Wenepoykin Hill. There, we can stop at the top of the hill for a short while and enjoy the sunset.
To get back, we will head back down the Skyline Trail to Mine Path at D5-4, before taking a very leisurely walk on Mine Path to Red Cross Path to Mud Road to Quarry Road to arrive back at the trailhead.
The total duration of the hike will be about 1.5 hours. About 50 minutes of hiking/walking will be involved. The first portion of the hike to the lookout spot will be approximately 30 minutes and will be low-moderate intensity. The walk back from the lookout spot will be about 20 minutes at a low intensity. The hike will cover about 2 miles total.
Folks can park either at the lot directly next to Bellevue Pond or at the other lot a little more north on South Border Rd (near the intersection of Jeremiah Circle) and then walk five minutes to the pond.
Steady rain or stormy wind cancels.
