It’s been a year of stops, starts, and stops again. We almost can’t believe it either: Fresh Off The Page is finally back. Let’s all get in a room together to spotlight and celebrate the vibrant uniqueness of the Asian diaspora as we return for our highly anticipated 2022 season!

FOTP is a series of monthly play readings where the freshest, hottest scripts by Asian playwrights in NZ are performed and directed by a mix of emerging and experienced Asian talent...for free!

'Paralúman' by Alyssa Medel

How well do you know your ancestors' sacrifice...and the consequences you've inherited?

Paralúman is an intimate family drama that follows three generations of strong Filipina women - each made to carry the consequences of their predecessor’s actions in a society forging its political identity at a critical point.

Alma is a librarian entangled in a love affair that’s put at risk by her involvement in the resistance. Clara is hailed as the typical “Maria Clara” of her small village but is caught between family obedience and her sense of justice.

And in the present day, Aya is moving back to the Philippines to pursue her postgraduate studies at a local university - much to her Lola’s dismay. But the tragic secret that is being hidden from her is waiting to crumble everything upon her return.

We at Proudly Asian Theatre have always been committed to prioritising the health and wellbeing of our crew, cast, and audience.

Amidst the global pandemic, we commit to minimising the risk of Covid transmission at our shows and events to protect our workers and audiences from the harmful effects of Covid-19.

The Ministry of Health has stated that vaccines play a vital role in protecting our community from Covid-19. To protect our team and audiences, and in compliance with our venue partners’ policies, we require all of our staff, partners, crew, and cast members to be fully vaccinated. Audience members must also be fully vaccinated to attend our indoor shows, and show their My Vaccine Pass prior to entering the venue.

In addition to this, under the Orange traffic light setting we encourage social distancing and the wearing of masks (unless eating, drinking, or performing) in the workplace and during shows. Under the Red setting, social distancing and the wearing of masks are mandatory.

Practices like keeping working spaces well ventilated when possible and using hand sanitizer regularly are heartily encouraged also.
