At a time when the world feels ablaze, polarisation divides us more than ever, and burnout is all around, Frerick den Haan brings order to the chaos with his stylistic piano compositions.Rooted in both jazz and classical music, Frerick has grown into a versatile musician. In addition to his own compositions, he is also the keyboardist for the Dutch indie pop band Handsome Poets (known for hits like Sky On Fire and Dance The War Is Over). However, through his solo work, he follows a distinctly different path. Constantly experimenting, he has, in recent years, discovered his own unique voice — one shaped by elements of film scores, classical traditions, and pop/indie influences, always in deliberate pursuit of the piano’s inherent melancholy. Through this, he creates a personal world in which both he and his millions of listeners worldwide can momentarily escape the rush of everyday life.
His music now features on the most popular instrumental piano playlists on Spotify and Apple Music, was used in the short animated film L'Étranger, and was recently featured on the BBC’s classical radio station, curated by none other than Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery.
The platform 3voor12 praised his work highly, naming him one of the standout surprises of 2023 from The Hague’s music scene, describing his music as "a moment for everyone to enter a state of hyperfocus." Meanwhile, international platform Bandcamp wrote of his debut album NOIR:
“Calming and peaceful, Frerick den Haan’s composition explores the grandeur found in quietude.”
Expect a performance filled with surprising solo piano music, interwoven with personal stories behind the compositions.
