We currently meet monthly (excluding July and August), and include a mix of repeated dances and 1 or 2 new dances each month.
Our delightful Vanessa Franchetti, from Monaco, will lead us in dance; with a walk-through of all dances before we add music. Vanessa is a skilled, experienced and patient teacher who has been living in Belfast since 2009.
Balfolk is a form of folk dancing that is very popular across Europe. The music is immensely varied in rhythm and speed, ranging from slow sensuous couple dances like the mazurka, to the fast and flowing progressive circles like the chapelloise. Our evening will include a wide variety of these dances, from the repetitive and hypnotic Breton chains, the lively and intricate bourrées from the centre of France and the rhythmic energetic solo dances from the Pays Basque.
Logistics: please note that An Droichead's pedestrian gate will not be open. As you enter Cooke Street, the carpark for An Droichead is the first set of gates on the left. Entry to the building is via the carpark, from there, walk past the mobile classroom on your right, and turn right. The main red brick building will be on your left, walk straight ahead to the metal gate, and take a left.
The bal will take place on the upper floor of the main red-bricked building.
Online sales will end at noon on the day before the event, for admin purposes.
For your information, Bal Feirste is a not-for-profit organisation.
