As a benefit to raise funds to support the local recovery community through Freedom Through Recovery: Susan Ford Recovery Community Organization, the Averitt Center for the Arts will be hosting the concert “Freedom Through Rock” on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 at 7:30 PM at 33 E. Main St. Featuring “Ella Speed”, an epic southern rock jam band comprised of Statesboro natives who eloquently graced the stage last January to light up the night with a powerful performance of masterful musicianship and excellent tunes, the show is sure to be a stellar experience this year. Sponsors for the 2025 show are Dabbs, Hickman, Hill and Cannon, LLP; Armour Barns of Statesboro; C. Doug Collins III, CPA; and, Floors Outlet. “I can’t wait to see everyone smiling and hugging as they come together to have a wonderful time grooving to the music!” states Catherine Tootle, Executive Director of Freedom Through Recovery: Susan Ford Recovery Community Organization. “We are so very thankful to our sponsors and band for making this possible. We are firm believers in the opposite of addiction being connection and what a great way to connect - music.”
According to Jake Hallman in the Georgia Southern University newspaper prior to the band’s recent 25-year reunion in 2024, “The best description of Ella Speed’s performance style is, well, The Allman Brothers meet Phish …. They aim to show the paying customers some really southern-injected music, and they do the job nicely.”
For this year’s show, Ken Durden, drummer for Ella Speed, states, “We always enjoy returning to our roots in Statesboro, GA. What better way to do it than a reunion show at a historic theater, for a great cause we believe in. We’re looking forward to an even better show this year!”
Tickets are $25 apiece. As a recovery-friendly event, no alcohol will be served. To buy tickets, or for more information, please visit: www.averittcenterforthearts.org or call 912.212.2787.
