About this Event
The Inspiration
In the summer of 1925, visual artists, musicians, and writers joined civil rights activists, lawyers, physicians, and academics for a party that changed the world. Their gathering stoked the embers of one of the most discussed and robust periods of artistic revival, political upheaval, and scholastic engagement ever witnessed: the Harlem Renaissance.
Now, 100 years later, we can learn from our early twentieth century counterparts. Parties are places of relaxation and decompression as well as spaces of community galvanization and resource accumulation. Parties can change the world.
Join us at this world-building endeavor! The Freedom Party will be a space for resource gathering and sharing, storytelling, artmaking, and community building. We’ll have games, food, art, music, activities for all ages, and more. We party for fun and to sustain our fight for freedom!
Freedom Party 2025
The Freedom Party, hosted by the Center for Racial Justice and Equitable Futures, the Africana Studies & Research Center, and American Studies at Cornell, invites everyone to a party for freedom!
This year’s inaugural Freedom Party will feature a performance by the soul singer SingTrece, live DJ sets, a knowledge corner with books for the community, and a resource center, as well as face painting, games, and activities for all ages. Food is being provided at no cost by Southside, Asempa Kitchen, Taste of Thai, and Rashida Sawyer Bakery.
