Zoe Rosenberg was sentenced to 90 days in custody for her rescue of four suffering chickens from Perdue's Petaluma Poultry.
Lifelong animal rescuer Zoe Rosenberg was just sentenced to 90 days in custody for her rescue of four suffering chickens from Perdue's Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. She was ordered to turn herself in on December 10th. For giving Poppy, Aster, Ivy, and Azalea their freedom, Zoe has lost hers. Meanwhile, Perdue's Petaluma Poultry faces no accountability for abusing animals. This J*il sentence could be life-threatening for Zoe because of her type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis, which require specific medical equipment and care. When Zoe was initially arrested, the J*il threatened to take away her insulin pump. Despite this risk to Zoe's life and the nonviolent nature of her actions, Sonoma County Judge Kenneth Gnoss nevertheless sentenced her to J*il. Zoe's legal team, led by the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project (@AALDP_DU), filed a formal notice of appeal to appeal her conviction on several grounds, including that the court denied the necessity defense even though Zoe's actions were necessary to save Poppy, Aster, Ivy, and Azalea from imminent harm. But appeals take a long time and Zoe needs our help now.Join us at 1:30pm on Saturday, December 13th at the Boston Common by the Brewer Fountain and Park St. MBTA station for our Free Zoe March where we’ll march from the Common to a Trader Joe’s location, calling on Gavin Newsom to pardon Zoe and calling on the California Attorney General’s office to prosecute animal-abusing factory farms instead of animal rescuers. Go to FreeZoe.org right now and ask California Governor @gavinnewsom to pardon Zoe and immediately release her from jai and join us, Saturday. Signs will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring or make your own "Free Zoe" sign.
It’s also important to note that this repression is an attempt from Perdue with the help of Sonoma County’s judicial institutions and law enforcement to send a message to the animal rights movement and scare activists so they stop exposing companies that exploit and K*ll animals. So now more than ever we have to keep fighting and bring attention to the fact that rescuing animals is not a crime.
