🌊🌞 Varna marks the European Tourism Day with free walking tours!✨ On the occasion of the European Tourism Day, celebrated on January 26, Varna will offer its residents and visitors free thematic walking tours in Bulgarian and English.
The initiative aims to promote the city’s cultural and historical heritage, as well as to highlight the role of licensed tour guides in the development of sustainable tourism. Tour guides play a key role in presenting Varna’s cultural and historical legacy. They do more than simply lead visitors from one landmark to another — through their knowledge and storytelling, they bring history to life, reveal fascinating facts and legends, and create an emotional connection between visitors and the city.
Tour guides support sustainable tourism by encouraging respect for cultural heritage and offering guidance on responsible tourist behavior. The profession requires broad general knowledge, language skills, strong communication abilities, and the capacity to present information in an engaging and accessible way. Without the role of tour guides, the tourist experience often remains superficial — they are the bridge between the city’s past and present, ensuring that every visitor leaves Varna with a genuine understanding of its cultural identity and the spirit of the sea capital.
The free walking tours are organized by the Tourism Directorate of the Municipality of Varna and the Tourist Information Centre, in partnership with the Union of Tourist Guides in Bulgaria.
🏛️✨ Participants will have the opportunity to discover both Varna’s iconic landmarks and lesser-known stories, curious facts, and urban legends that reveal the rich past and unique spirit of the sea capital. The tours are suitable for both tourists and local residents and last approximately 90 minutes.
📍 Starting point: Tourist Information Centre, Varna
🕰️ Tour schedule:
