Learn from a team licensed social work instructors and practice new skills with the goal enhancing safety in the Short North Arts District.
About this Event

The Short North Arts District is a nationally-recognized hub of creativity known for being vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming. Safety in the Short North is a state where everyone is free of harm, thrives, has their well-being protected and their diversity celebrated.

With the goal of enhancing safety for all in the Short North, the Short North Alliance is partnering with licensed social work instructors Mike Gerz of Maryhaven and Daniel King of Volunteers of America and Ohio and Indiana to provide two opportunities to attend a free training designed to build participants' skills for de-escalation in customer service.

Who Can Attend?

These trainings are offered to employees, business owners, and community residents in the greater Short North community, including the Short North Arts District, the 5th Ave and 4th St Special Improvement District, and the Friends of the Short North program. To compensate employees in the districts for their time, every employee participant will receive a Visa Gift Card after each session, with the potential of earning up to $75 in gift cards.

Training Topic

De-escalation in Customer Service: This training will focus on teaching people valuable skills in handling tense situations, especially in customer service. It aims to equip frontline service-sector employees to maintain safety for themselves and others when faced with interpersonal challenges. ($25 Visa Gift Card per District Employee.)
