Join Bob Comeau as he takes you on a one-hour tour of Ludlow’s historic, garden-style Island Pond Cemetery which holds important historical significance for the region as both a late 19th-century burial ground with over 6, 000 interments and a reflection of Ludlow’s historical evolution and dedication to military veterans. It is the designated site for Wreaths Across America ceremonies, typically held in December, honoring the town’s veterans (over 1,100 veteran graves are noted, and wreath-laying takes place annually at the cemetery).
Burials at Island Pond include many prominent local residents and veterans, and descendants of Ludlow families including immigrants from Poland, Portugal, Ireland, and Quebec. It contains veterans from the Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, making it an important local site of military remembrance.
For local historians and genealogists, Island Pond Cemetery is a source of family history, chronicling generations of Ludlow residents.
