FREE TOUR: Easthampton's East Street (Eastside) Cemetery

Tour a cemetery that is was established in the 18th century and is one of the city's oldest cemeteries with 18th century headstones.
About this Event

Join Bob Comeau as he takes you on a one-hour tour of Easthampton’s historic, East Street Cemetery which has burials that go back to the 1700's. This tour, in celebration of its 250th anniversary, will highlight its history as well as Eliakim Clark who donated the land as well as many other prominent local residents, businessmen, and veterans. There are several hundred burials in this cemetery, and though East Street Cemetery itself does not appear to hold Indigenous burials, it sits within a landscape where the Nonotuck/Pocumtuc lived for centuries and where a major colonial-Indigenous conflict occurred in 1704.

For local historians and genealogists this cemetery is a source of family history, chronicling early Eastampton residents.

This program is supported by the Holyoke Preservation Trust and in part by a grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Park on the street on the side of the cemetery.

Please wear comfortable shoes and prepare to be out in the grass. You may want to bring bug repellant and sunscreen.
