Join Bob Comeau on November 15th as he guides you through the earliest plots that hold the names of landowners, farmers, and shopkeepers who helped shape East Longmeadow as a community. The cemetery preserves East Longmeadow’s oldest family lines from the mid- to late-19th century, and the veterans from historic wars who served the United States valiantly. The cemetery’s gravestones range from simple tablets to more modest family stones. Together, these oldest families and veteran memorials anchor the cemetery as a living archive of East Longmeadow’s social fabric and its enduring memory of service.
For local historians and genealogists this cemetery is a source of family history, chronicling early residents.
Park along Callender Avenue and meet at the gate of the older part of the cemetery – walk around both segments.
This program is supported by the Holyoke Preservation Trust and in part by a grant from the East Longmeadow Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Meet and park within the cemetery which is just past 384 Main Street.
Please wear comfortable shoes and prepare to be out in the grass.
