Recent forecasts indicate steady growth, with construction output projected to increase year-over-year through 2027. The government has committed to delivering 1.3 million homes over the next five years, alongside significant investment in infrastructure and the transition to clean energy. Updated regulations on building safety, embodied carbon and sustainability are reshaping the way projects are delivered, while new legislation, such as the Great British Energy Act, is setting fresh expectations for the industry.
Yet challenges remain. Skills shortages continue to affect delivery, with critical trades in short supply and an ageing workforce adding further strain. Costs for labour and materials are unpredictable, and planning delays continue to hinder both housing and infrastructure projects. At the same time, the sector faces pressure to adopt modern methods of construction, scale up innovation and reduce carbon emissions, whilst operating on tight margins and navigating complex regulations.
