A free talk on how physiology and psychology affects women's performance when cycling.
About this Event

Join us for a discussion of how our bodies and minds can affect our cycling performance. This talk will be led by researchers Meg and Morgan from the University of Loughborough, where they both specialise in aspects of women's health. The talk is free and open to all women and non-binary people.

Meg Smith is a cycling coach, exercise physiologist and researcher specialising in female athlete health. She currently works with a professional road cycling team and is completing her PhD at Loughborough University, where her research explores how the menstrual cycle influences training, performance and how women feel on the bike. Meg is passionate about translating science into practical support for female cyclists and is especially motivated by research that helps improve how women are understood, supported and empowered in the sport. She will be delivering this workshop alongside Morgan Miller, a sport and exercise psychologist in training and also a PhD student at Loughborough University. Morgan’s work focuses on understanding the barriers to exercise within the midlife population, with a particular interest in how psychological, social and physical factors can limit or enable women’s participation in physical activity. Together, Meg and Morgan bring a unique blend of physiological and psychological insight to conversations about women’s health, performance and long-term engagement in sport. They are excited to share knowledge about the menstrual cycle, training and wellbeing and to highlight how riders can get involved in research that is shaping a better future for women in cycling.

This talk takes place at Nottingham Women's Centre, information on their inclusion policy can be found here: https://www.nottinghamwomenscentre.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Trans-Inclusion-Policy.pdf
