This is a 3 part swing dance class on Thursdays, an hour of class and an hour of social dancing afterwards
New year New you: Come try a new hobby and learn how to swing dance with us! We are a nonprofit organization that supports our local musicians and dancers. We offer regular classes in Lindy Hop and several other Jazz era dance styles (like Charleston, Balboa, Slow Balboa, and Shag), as well as social dances to live music and DJ'd music, on a regular basis. This is a great opportunity to try something new, meet new friends, become part of your community, and enjoy some amazing music and dances! This series is for *free*, we are dropping the normal rate of $10 per class or $20 for all three in the series to encourage people to come see what swing dancing is like.
No partner needed, no experience needed. We will rotate partners throughout the class so you get to learn with everyone and meet everyone, so no need to worry if you are coming alone. Please stay after the hour long lesson for the hour of social dancing, you will get to meet our dancers who are taking a more advanced class and will want to meet you so you can practice what you learned in class.
Located downstairs in the Historic USO building in downtown Wilmington, at Orange and 2nd St
We suggest clothes that are comfortable to exercise in and if you can wear shoes that are not too grippy on the floor that will make any spins and movement easier! Feel free to reach out or ask any additional questions that would make you more comfortable getting started with swing dancing or showing up for your first class
The teachers for this class are Micah and Dana, they have both been swing dancing for years and love teaching the beginners classes. They are also on the Cape Fear Swing Dance Society board and are great resources to go to if you need help figuring out who or how to ask for a dance or anything else to get comfortable here
