About this Event

TAIKO WITH TONI AND LANCE

"Taiko with Toni and Lance" was formed in 1995 when Toni returned to Denver from California, after 8 years of playing with San Jose Taiko. Currently, Toni Yagami, Lance Acker and members from our current rehearsal groups, combine the joyous sounds of Japanese taiko (drums), hand percussion, bamboo flutes, and a "swinging" clarinet, as we play traditional and contemporary tunes. Japanese culture and history are intermingled with various other cultures throughout our musical presentation. We hope you will find something that you can relate to, and that it brings a smile to your face, your heart, and your soul!

KUNIKO YAMAMOTO

Kuniko Yamamoto received her Bachelor of Psychology from Otani University of Kyoto, Japan in 1983, then started performing professionally in her hometown of Osaka where she grew up studying traditional dance, music and theater. In 1985, she received national exposure performing Japanese Storytelling at the Silk Road International Exposition and on Kansai National TV. The following year, Kuniko traveled to the United States to study with Tony Montanaro, a highly respected mime and actor and toured with Leland Faulkner Light Theater where she helped present lavish stage illusions and brought ancient tales to life with shadows and magic. In 2015, she built Origami Air Art Studio as a creative hub, where she collaborates with local artists in Sarasota, Florida.

Learn about Kuniko’s fusion of storytelling and origami on Oct 2nd from 6-7PM in the Tobin Visual Arts Center Room at Casper College. Registration: 307-268-3399
