The Free Range Pickers are heading to The Donkey Coffee in Athens, Ohio with a new line-up of players. Playing a mix of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys’ classic Western Swing tunes, the new 6-piece line-up features John Borchard on steel guitar with the twin fiddle sound of Julia Farver and Mark Burhans. Chris Ridgway sings and picks the Telecaster with Jonathan Sowers and Ken Dean holding down that classic Western Swing rhythm and bass. $5 at the door supports this project to keep Western Swing music alive in Athens County.
Western swing is a musical genre that began in the 1930s in the Southwest US. It blends country, jazz, blues, and swing and features fiddles, guitars, horns, and drums with danceable rhythms.
