Join us on Wednesday from 6:30 – 8 pm for our First Public Domain Theatre program of the 2026 season! This month’s free movie is the haunting 1955 classic The Night of the Hunter.A chilling blend of Southern Gothic, noir, and fairy tale, The Night of the Hunter follows a sinister preacher who uses religion as a disguise while pursuing hidden money—and two children who know his secret. Directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum in one of cinema’s most unforgettable performances, the film explores themes of good versus evil, innocence, fear, and resilience through striking black-and-white visuals.
💡 Fun fact: This was the only film Charles Laughton ever directed, yet it’s now widely regarded as one of the greatest films in American cinema history.
This event is free, and light concessions will be available for purchase during the show. Please stick around after the movie for a post-film discussion with host Dennis Everette.
