Marisa Bozarth, the museum curator for the Burlington County Parks Department will visit the historic Shipman Mansion on November 13 and give a talk on the ”Theater of Plants” the oldest book in the Burlington County archives.
One of the most prized artifacts in the Lyceum's collection is The Theater of Plants published in 1640 by John Parkinson, an English naturalist and apothecary. The book contains thousands of etchings of then-known species along with detailed information on each. Not only is the book a prime example of early botanical studies, but it has a storied history as well. Discover this rare first-edition in a presentation where we will tell the history of such a publication, its journey to the collection, and share some of the pages with you.
About the presenter: Marisa Bozarth is the museum curator for the Burlington County Parks Department. She has developed several exhibits relating to local history, researching and presenting educational programs monthly. Also consulting with small historical societies, working as a humanities scholar on exhibit and interpretive projects. Marisa is also in charge of our County History Partnership Program regrant program for history organizations, the Historians' Roundtable in where she oversees all historical societies in the county, and the History Recognition Awards annually.

Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. All proceeds support the ongoing restoration of the historic Shipman Mansion. Recently, the entire exterior was painted, and extensive wood damage was repaired. Your contributions will help cover these costs.
