An evening-length interdisciplinary extravaganza!
About this Event

In this evening-length interdisciplinary extravaganza, audiences bear witness as a dysfunctional couple attempts to clean out their living room, sorting through piles of treasured belongings because they know that the portal to the land of the dead is in there somewhere!

Inspired by the founding of the GLBT Historical Society in San Fransisco, which archives the possessions that people who died of AIDS in the 1980s left behind, The Living Room employs Free Pile Productions' signature blend of the heartfelt and absurd to tenderly explore grief, memory, and love through puppetry, music, and crankies (illustrated panoramic scrolls).

Free Pile Productions is a multimedia art collective in the Connecticut River Valley, Massachusetts. We work together to create DIY performance art that smashes together each of our skills in writing, acting, instrumentalism, painting, drawing, puppetry, production, clowning, stagecraft, and assemblage. We're playing off each other to create joyful and accessible performances for everyone; art out of nothing.

In 2025 the collective created two original puppet musicals including, Noh Bailey and the Little Man Who Makes The Music which premiered at The Foundry in West Stockbridge MA, as well as Mr. Free Pile and the Very Normal Puppet Show which premiered to a sold-out crowd at The Brick House in Great Falls, MA. Other shows include Fledge Fest 2025 in VT, Fresh Grass 2025 at MassMoCa, QueerAF 2025 Puppet Slam, and the 2026 Baltimore Crankie Fest.
