I hope all were able to enjoy and share in Thanksgiving! Time to start planning for Christmas. Given the success of last year's stuffed socking initiative, I would like to propose we do it again! I've already been contacted by the girl guides who were a big help last year. In 2023 we held the giveaway on the first Saturday in December and I suggest we do the same and bring our stuffed socks to the pantry on Saturday, December 7. Are you keen?ITEMS TO INCLUDE:
- Travel size toiletries like soaps lotions, deodorant, shampoos, etc
- Hand-warmers
- Non-prescription items like Tylenol & antacids
- Dental care
- Nail polish & clippers
- Hair care such as combs, gels, or elastic bands
- Little treats like wrapped candies, small toys, gift cards, hot cocoa packs, teas, etc.
Really, whatever can fit into the socking. Remember the sockings will go to unhoused souls, seniors, people on disability pensions and single parents. If you do up a socking with a younger person in mind, please put a note on it.
MORE DETAILS:
Gather socks and non-perishable items that our pantry guests would welcome as seasonal treats. Use the photo as a guide to how the sock can look when filled. Work with a group, on your own, make it a family project, make one or make a dozen. Bring them to the pantry on the morning of the giveaway. We will have a canopy and hot chocolate and maybe some raffle Items. Contact the church office if you need to drop off earlier.
Ways to help beside giving include hosting the table, event set-up and tear down, and distribution of extra sockings to the warming centre.
