About The Artist
NIA is an Alternative R&B artist and creative entrepreneur, currently based in Philadelphia.
She was born in Queens, New York to Trinbagonian parents. She started songwriting at the age of 7 under the influence of artists such as Sade, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder & Donny Hathaway. Other influences include Solange, Frank Ocean, Pharrell, The INTERNET, and her musical roots; Calypso and Soca. By her junior year of high school, she was already cutting her teeth as a music producer; this was the time she began to find her authentic voice.
After spending her early childhood in Trinidad & Tobago, she relocated to Brooklyn, then to Pennsylvania. She would later attend Shippensburg University, where she received a B.A in English and Womens & Gender Studies. During her time there, NIA began to perform and collaborate with other artists. In her senior year, she formed her production company, Chill Room Records. She is also an actor and filmmaker, check out some of her credits.
