*SPACE LIMITED ~ RESERVATIONS REQUIRED*Free Oak Grove Cemetery Tour – Saturday, October 11, 2025
A free in-depth tour of the history of St. Marys as told through stories of those buried in Oak Grove Cemetery will be given at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Kay Westberry, author of Oak Grove Cemetery—Quiet Reflections on the History of St. Marys and Its People, will again be leading this popular tour. The tour is open to the general public.
Majestic Oak Grove has been an intriguing location since it was created and laid out as part of St. Marys in 1787-88. Approximately 29 soldiers of the American Revolution as well as soldiers from all wars fought by our country lie in peaceful repose under the beautiful live oaks which shade their rest. The City’s ties with the ocean and rivers are obvious from the markers in honor of captains, seamen and fishermen.
Reservations may be made by calling 912-882-5301. If there is no answer, please leave a message with your name, the number in your party, and a phone number where you can be reached in case of cancellation due to bad weather.
Please park on the W**d Street side of the cemetery and meet at the main entrance gate there. The tour will last approximately an hour and a half or as long as questions keep coming.
The tour is free, but donations are accepted and will be used for repairing monuments in need.
