Harm Reduction

Harm reduction fits into a global movement for social justice built on a belief in and respect for the rights of all people particularly those who use drugs or trade sex. In addition to autonomy it values community care over isolating punishments and it considers the structures of racism ableism class inequality and other structural oppressions which render people of color disabled/chronically ill/those living with serious mental illness and poor and unhoused people in particular at higher risk for dangerous drug use and overdose dangerous working conditions in criminalized economies like the sex trades and dangerous relationships within these contexts.
