Surprise libraries & SoSco Duo celebrate sesquicentennial with Stars & Stories Reading Program and Patriotic Songs
The Surprise Public Library System is excited to announce a new reading program in celebration of America’s 250th – Stars & Stories. The program will run from October 1, 2025 - July 4, 2026.
During the program, readers will be awarded fun badges and prizes, based on minutes read. The goal is to read 1,776 minutes over the next nine months in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Prizes will include books, American flags, challenge coins and patriotic swag!
Throughout the year, all three libraries will be hosting specialty Stars & Stories events with a speaker series on various topics of United States history and the Armed Forces.
Visit the Stars & Stories reading program webpage to register and learn more about the program: 1776.surprisepubliclibrary.gov.
To get the party started, the Stars & Stories Kickoff Party is Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Surprise Regional Library. This special event will feature a reading of the Declaration of Independence, live music by SoSco Duo and fun activities for the whole family! No registration required.
