This free beginner-friendly lesson will explore a slow and cozy form of swing dancing called slow bal. Its easy on the mind, body, and soul and lets dancers explore what happens to balboa when the music slows down. No experience or partner required, though due to the close connection, dancers may wish to bring a partner if they will be more comfortable. Participants are encouraged to wear shoes that provide little to no traction on the dance floor.Balboa is a partnered swing dance, born from the thriving multi-cultural community of southern California in the 1920s. Amidst a booming Jazz age, young adults in the balboa peninsula answered the question, how do we move and express ourselves when we don’t have any space on the dance floor?
