We’ve all been looking forward to Kim Stacy’s lecture about what Revolutionary War soldiers ate in the field, originally scheduled for this Friday. Unfortunately, Kim has had to bow out because of a serious family emergency. We wish him and his family all the best.Meanwhile, Fritz Hamer, the Relic Room’s former curator of history, has generously volunteered to step in with a different military history program for Friday, Nov. 21. We are enormously grateful for his willingness to step in on such short notice, and we look forward to his presentation, “German POWS in South Carolina.”
Did you know that more than 8,000 German – and Italian -- prisoners were held right here in South Carolina during the Second World War? A network of 25 camps were scattered all across the state, right here on the homefront.
