About this Event

Join a Friends of Edgewood docent for a free kid-friendly nature hike at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve. Foster kids’ natural curiosity and sharpen their skills of observation and imagination. On the trail we'll use our senses and ask questions about what we observe to build our ability to notice and inquire. We'll gain confidence being in nature, too! These fun, interactive hikes are geared for families with young children and foster a love of nature rooted in shared memories.

This hike will start at the entrance to the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center. We’ll cover about 1.5 miles at a kid-friendly pace and make frequent stops to explore what we find along the trail at San Mateo County’s only natural preserve.

Hikes usually last an hour and a half to two hours. Note that Edgewood’s many narrow trails cannot accommodate strollers.

We will still hike in light showers, but heavy rain cancels this event.

Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Consider sunscreen, a hat, and snacks. Restrooms are available only at the picnic area, near the start of the Sylvan Trail. Please plan ahead. Your hike will start promptly at 10am.

All participants must have a ticket, including children. Details on where to meet will be emailed before the event.

Group size is very limited: please cancel your reservation if you are unable to attend so others can have a chance to join us.

We ask folks to register for our hikes in order to keep group sizes manageable, but often we have a few no shows. If you’d like to take a chance, you are welcome to drop-in 10 minutes before the beginning of the hike to see if there is extra room. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm whether there will be space for drop-in hikers in advance. Thank you for your understanding.
