Who Are We?
Since 2005 Get It Loud In Libraries have been putting on high quality gigs in libraries with the best of established and break-through talent. We've had Adele's soulful pipes fill the room and recently (at Blackpool Library!) we've had The Last Dinner Party's fierce guitar riffs shake the stage. This half term we are bringing the GILIL Academy to the young people of Blackpool; offering participants the chance to learn about all things music industry, meet new people and gain a Bronze Arts Award!
But what is the GILIL Academy programme and Music Camp?
Our GILIL Academy programme supports young people’s participation and talent development in creative and cultural activities. The programme seeks to challenge and change young people’s perceptions of libraries and to engage new them in using these unique and valuable community assets to their advantage.
What to expect?
The GILIL Academy Music Camp taking place this February 2025 is a jam-packed series of unique opportunities for young people to engage with live music through workshops, mentoring and work placements. Every young person enrolled will have the opportunity to achieve a Bronze Level Arts Award which is embedded into the programme and to attend future gigs with Get It Loud In Libraries.

FAQS
So what IS GILIL Academy?
GILIL Academy is a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the working music industry. You will have the opportunity to understand the delivery of a live gig with our fabulous event team, network with bands and artists from across the UK, participate in a wide range of music workshops and make connections for your music career by meeting experienced industry professionals and further education partners.
Sounds great, how do I join?
Just click on through and book your spot! We accept all young people as long as they are :
State-educated (home-ed or alternative provision is also fine).
Between 13-17 years of age.
Have an interest in music! We are looking for young people with a passion for music and an interest in having a career in the music industry.
Do I need to know how to play the drums?
Definitely not, in fact you don’t need any musical experience at all, just a passion for music! The Academy covers a broad range of music industry paths; from digital media, to song-writing and journalism. We don’t expect you to be a master of any of these- just open to trying a host of new skills that could benefit your future music industry career!
Can I come for just one or two days?
Our Academy trains young people up to be ready to jump into action on gig days, for this reason attendance for the full day at all the sessions (Days 1-4) mentioned above is necessary. This level of attendance also enables participants to achieve the Bronze Arts Award!
What’s this Arts Award?
Our Academy volunteers achieve so much we think it’s only fair that your hard work is recognised and we use the Bronze Arts Award to do just that. It's a nationally recognised qualification and is equivalent to the lower band of a GCSE.
But you don’t need to worry about acing any tests, the Bronze Award is fully embedded in the programme so all you need to do is turn up, take part and enjoy the music!
Will you feed me?
YES! Free lunch, drinks and snacks for all attendees, please let us know any dietary requirements ahead of attending.
What are the folk at the Academy like?
Young people at the Academy are a diverse group of music-lovers between 11-17 who want to be the next game-changers of the music industry! They might be budding photographers, raw taled rappers, or fledgling song-writers, but they all have in common a passion for music and a determination to learn new skills.
I have specific support needs, can you support me?
We do our best to support participants with additional needs but we do not have staff to support participants with complex behavioural needs.
With the small team we have we are willing to accomodate wherever we can. Emailing us in advance with details on access and support needs can help us make the decision of if we can safely support your young person to engage, so please do email us! All queries to [email protected].
