Join the Japanese American Museum of Oregon for this Free First Sunday, generously sponsored in honor of George & Keiko Nakata.Admission is free all day, 11am-4pm, and includes access to JAMOβs current exhibition, Because of Bill: William Sumio Naitoβs Legacy in Portland. In addition, we will be launching the second History Detective activity.
The History Detective program is for all ages but intended for those 5-12. It encourages engagement with the objects, photographs, and stories in the museum through the lens of a historian. Participants will learn important vocabulary, study artifacts, examine photos, maps, and documents, read and listen to stories, and ask and answer questions along the way.
On July 7, JAMO launches the second History Detective Challenge: Image Investigator! This challenge asks participants to practice the skills of looking closely and gathering information from photographs and maps, just like historians do. The challenge booklet will support participants in using images to learn more about history and geography as they move through the museum.
Become a History Detective by picking up your booklet at the Japanese American Museum of Oregon. Complete the three activities before the end of the year to get your official 2024 History Detectives badge!
Both the first and second challenges will be available at the museum on July 7.
