dir. Akira KurosawaDirector Akira Kurosawa’s visually stunning and darkly comic Yojimbo features the incomparable Toshiro Mifune as Sanjuro, a wily masterless samurai. To rid a terror-stricken village of corruption, Sanjuro enters a gang war between two evil clans and plays them against each other. Mifune’s ability to convey unvarnished emotion led him to be considered one of the finest actors in the history of film. Remade twice by Sergio Leone and Walter Hill, this exhilarating genre-twister remains one of the most influential and entertaining films of all time.
