Join Camrose Public Library and The Bailey Theatre for a free film screening in honour of Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Written and directed by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Kathleen Hepburn and shot in one continuous real-time sequence, The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open is inspired by a real life encounter Tailfeathers had years ago in East Vancouver. This award-winning drama focuses on two Indigenous women from different socio-economic backgrounds who are brought together by chance for a short time to navigate a traumatic event.
The title of the film is taken from an essay by Billy-Ray Belcourt, an award-winning writer and academic from the Driftpile Cree Nation in Northern Alberta. We will share some of Belcourt's poetry before the screening.
