About this Event
Five Oaks Museum is pleased to offer educators a free tour of our current exhibition, Replenish the Root: Six Centuries of Gathering Under the Oaks, which explores the Oregon white oak savanna ecosystem that once flourished in the Tualatin Valley under Kalapuyan stewardship. It is a place-based, multidisciplinary exhibition, attaching strongly to social studies standards and Tribal History/Shared History essentials, but also to environmental science and art.
The day prior to the tours will be the anniversary of the Grand Ronde Restoration Act, as well. It's a good day to commemorate federal recognition of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and also to celebrate Native Heritage Month, processing some of the dissonance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We'll be offering 1.5 PDUs, acorn-flour cookies, and hot tea.
After the tour, you'll have an option to view the Washington County Collection--400,000 belongings documenting the history of the Tualatin Valley-- or stick around to get a brief overview of the museum resources available for our current and online exhibitions including This IS Kalapuyan Land.
Feel free to bring family or friends, even if they aren't educators. As long as you register them, I'll know how many attendees to expect.
1 .5 PDUs can be earned for this event.
