Who: Salvatore OrlandoWhat: Sculpture in Stone
When: February 10, 2025, 3-5 pm
Michelangelo once said, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Salvatore Orlando describes his work as an art of subtraction as he removes material to expose the form he sees within.
Orlando considers himself a direct stone carver. Motivated by each stone, he develops his designs in his mind without first making a sketch or model before bringing his vision into reality. Recently, Orlando has been combining and illuminating different translucent stones from around the world to enhance their unique colors and textures.
“Sal,” as he likes to be called, shares his lifelong passion and insights into the world of sculpting with collectors, artisans, and stone enthusiasts at the Morro Bay Art Center.
