Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Advantage Realty West office and Ka Makana Ali‘i invite the public to a free community shred day at the Center for West O‘ahu on Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is invited to bring up to two file boxes full of paper to shred for free in the parking lot between Wendy’s and Macy’s. Shred-it Information Security Professionals perform all the shredding at the event. None of the following items are safe to be included in the documents: batteries, large metal objects, paper clips, staples, syringes, sharp objects, food, glass, cans, brochures, cardboard tubes, ink cartridges and toners, pressurized containers, magazines, CDs, 3 ring binders, plastic page protectors, blueprints, or electrical items. After documents are securely shredded, every piece is sent for recycling. Every ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy, and 7,000 gallons of water. Additionally, the event will collect donations for PACT Hawaii to improve the lives of client families and those in shelters. PACT welcomes new items for its shelters and client families including: diapers (all sizes) and baby wipes, baby formula, shelf-stable food, pillows and twin-sized sheets, personal hygiene products (toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary pad, soap), household cleaning supplies, school supplies (pen, paper, composition book, backpack), and gently used clothing.
E-Opala is also hosting an e-waste recycling drive, inviting the community to bring outdated electronics for reuse, and recycling to reduce waste, to preserve the environment, and to help fund IT accessibility to underprivileged communities in Hawai‘i.
