Free community meditation in nature at the 100 Acres on soft, green grass in the shade of big trees every Sunday. Every Body Welcome! (Note: This practice is under the rings between the parking lot and pond. Our Queer + Trans Practice is at the same time in our usual Saturday spot. Please visit https://indycommunityyoga.org/sunday for directions.)Hello! Tony here. My pronouns are he/him. I’m the practice leader for our Sunday meditation practice, now in person outdoors as well as online. I’ve been leading yoga and meditation practices here in Indianapolis since 2013 and have a daily meditation practice slightly older than that.
Meditation 10:00 – 10:30am: Our meditation practice is quiet, continually returning to ease in the body and ease in the breathing. Seated meditation is radical. There’s nothing to produce, accomplish, or achieve. Returning to ease isn’t always easy, though. Just practicing is enough. I’ve found that practicing this way, it is easier to be with what is present, pleasant or not, and be honest with myself about what I am sensing and feeling.
You are welcome to practice your Way as long as you maintain a quiet practice space for the group. We practice quiet meditation for about 25 minutes. You’re welcome to sit any way you like and use a chair, bench, cushion, or just the ground. Laying down is ok, too.
At the beginning of practice, I’ll ask for a volunteer to read our version of the Heart Sutra in English. This is a short Buddhist text about meditation practice that takes about 4 minutes to read and leads right into our quiet meditation practice.
Sharing and Discussion 10:30 – 11:00am: Share any questions, reflections, and observations and hear what others have to share. It’s ok to just listen, too.
