March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and you can screen for colorectal cancer at home. Screenings are recommended for adults age 50 and up and age 45 with a high-risk family history. You may be eligible for an at-home testβ no colonoscopy necessary. Call 706-320-8700 to get prescreened. In partnership with the West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition, the John B. Amos Cancer Center will host free colon cancer screenings Wednesdays in March at the MercyMed Misson, Thursdays in March at MercyMed and weekdays in March at the John B. Amos Cancer Center.
The Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) measures hemoglobin in the stool. It uses a small stool sample that the patient provides in a special container. All you have to do is send it back to the lab. This test may save your life.
