Trauma cases present some of the most critical and time-sensitive challenges in veterinary emergency care. This webinar will provide veterinary nurses and technicians with a structured, approach to the initial assessment and stabilisation of trauma patients. Focusing on four common and life-threatening scenarios—respiratory emergencies, uroabdomen, traumatic wounds, and head trauma—participants will learn how to identify key clinical signs, prioritise interventions, and deliver effective nursing support throughout the critical phases of care. Emphasis will be placed on monitoring parameters, pain management, patient positioning, wound care principles, and communication within the veterinary team, empowering attendees to play a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes in the emergency setting.
SPEAKER: Elle Haskey, RVN BSc(hons) PGCert FHEA VTS(ECC) VPAC A1.
Elle graduated in 2008 from the University of Bristol with a BSc honours degree as a RVN. She moved to the Midlands where she worked in a mixed practice for 2 years before returning to the University of Bristol as a Senior ICU nurse. She spent 4 years at Bristol where she gained the VTS(ECC) qualification in 2012. In 2013 Elle moved to London where she joined the Royal Veterinary College Emergency and Critical Care team and was Head ECC nurse for 4 years. In 2020 she stepped back so she could focus on clinical nursing in addition to mentoring and teaching students working in the hospital. Elle has lectured internationally, written several articles and also contributed to book chapters. She peer reviews articles for The Veterinary Nurse and is on the committee for EVECCS and BSAVA.
