Bring your family and your blankets to First Avenue Park in Downtown Newnan, and plop yourselves on the grass to hear our guests read stories while you enjoy some free ice cream and pick out a brand new book to take home! This event started in 2019 when Atkinson Elementary media specialist, Jessica Pope, applied for and won a grant to start this initiative. Since then, Books on Blankets still strives to help families create happy memories surrounding books and reading in the summer with the help of other literacy partners such as Coweta Ferst Foundation, Foundation Christian Church, and local educators.
