AMOS invites WNC families to reflect, grieve, and celebrate resilience through the Our Changing World exhibit
On April 30, 2025, the Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) opened Our Changing World, a new exhibit created to help Western North Carolina residents explore the connections between climate science and community resilience in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Since then, the space has become a gathering point for learning, conversation, and reflection.
Local families have used Our Changing World to answer difficult questions with children. Climate scientists working downtown often stop by with colleagues. Visitors from out of town encounter stories of resilience unique to Western North Carolina—and many leave inspired to support their own communities.
“As WNC residents ourselves, we recognize that the anniversary of Hurricane Helene may resurface questions, feelings, or memories,” said Amanda Bryant, Executive Director of AMOS. “We want to offer Our Changing World as a quiet, welcoming space where neighbors can process, grieve, and reflect.”
To honor the one-year anniversary of the storm, admission to AMOS will be free to all Western North Carolina residents on Friday, September 26, 2025. Guests are invited to visit Our Changing World as a place of remembrance and hope.
Cost: Free admission for all residents of Western North Carolina (with valid ID showing a WNC zip code)
