Join Taranaki’s own electronica artist Frau Knotz to experience an exclusive preview of her debut EP 'Nextraterrestrial'. This EP is not just a series of songs. It’s a seamless audiovisual experience of 7 distinct soundscapes accompanied by a 3D fully-animated short film, featuring an avatar of Frau Knotz herself exploring a series of futuristic, extraordinary worlds.To celebrate this occasion, for one night only she will present an exclusive premiere of the animated film, followed by a seminar with producer Sam Johnson where they break down the music production process, allowing the audience to peek behind-the-scenes at how each song was made, from composition, recording, production and mixing. Following the seminar will be a Q&A session between Sam, Frau Knotz and the audience, where visual arts and music lovers can have their burning questions answered.
This spellbinding short film was made by LA-based, Christchurch-born animation artist Blue Hamel A.K.A Halfofnothing. Blue has worked with global brands such as Adidas and Louis Vuitton and iconic figures such as Kanye West, Childish Gambino and Kylie Jenner. He is renowned for his avant-garde artistry and expertise in the 3D fashion space, making virtually unreal clothes by taking garments from the physical into the digital world, becoming immersive experiences that overcome physical barriers. His stunning 3D animation for 'Nextraterrestrial' expands on the EP’s themes of futurism and the unknowability of life, the universe and the depths of the ocean.
Revealing the coming-of-age of Frau Knotz, her first significant body of work wields songs conceived just as often from the far reaches of her imagination as the lived depths of her heart, spun into an avant-garde, cinematic world where we can reach out and grab hold of Other Futures. 'Nextraterrestrial' walks the tightrope between terror and euphoria, between the fictional and the unashamedly bold, the enigmatic and anthemic, the uplifting and the devastating.
