For many people, Kafka is just a name to indicate feeling entangled in bureaucracy. It's so ‘Kafkaesque’, we like to say when calling the Tax Office or any other agency. Kafkaesque stands for having nowhere to turn with your question, for not getting a specific answer, and for being endlessly referred on to something of someone else.
But why do we still use an inter-bellum author’s name in these kinds of situations? Who was Franz Kafka anyway? What did he write? And why are contemporary authors still convinced of the quality of his work?
In their presentation, Odile Heynders and Kate Huber will talk about Kafka’s oeuvre, his life and times. And they will read a few excerpts to discover whether his work appeals also to you today!
