Enjoy a passionate and romantic night of 1950s-style vocal jazz and organ trio at Vancouver's best jazz club! Western Canadian Music Awards' "Jazz Artist of the Year" (2024 Nominee) / JazzTimes’ Magazine Reader’s Poll "Best Female Vocalist" Angela Verbrugge has recently returned from tours in Japan, Taiwan, Atlantic Canada, and Europe this year alone. Inspired by how a beautiful orange coastal sunset transforms a day to night, Angela’s Sunset Swing show aspires to transform your mood on a soul-level with fun and groovy interpretations of jazz standards. The quartet will perform familiar favourites (such as those by Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and as performed by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Anita O’Day) alongside Angela’s clever originals composed in a classic songbook style. Find her popular recordings on your streaming platform. Based on Vancouver Island since 2019, this is Angela’s only performance in Vancouver this fall. Vancouver Island-jazz fans well know the swingin' approach rooted in tradition taken by jazz organ by Victoria-based pianist/organist/PhD music, Dr. Tony Genge; we are lucky to have him on the mainland for this special evening. With over thirty years of experience as a professional musician, Dave Sikula is a first-call guitarist on the Vancouver jazz scene playing with legendary musicians such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Brian Charette as well as many established Canadian artists. Rising-star west coast jazz drummer Graham Villette has quickly made a name for himself as part of the John Lee Trio, and as part of ensembles at top venues and festivals for jazz from Toronto to British Columbia.
