Up until recently, the portraits in Liberty Hall Historic Site’s collection had been largely under-researched. Art Historian Sophia Watson has delved into the lives of each portrait artist and uncovered the significant context that each of the artworks were painted in. These details of the portraits that adorn the wall of Liberty Hall and the Orlando Brown house give insightful context to the Brown’s family history as well as the tradition of itinerant artists in Frankfort, Kentucky. This presentation will walk the audience through the unique art history that belongs to the Brown’s family legacy.Sophia Watson serves as an interpreter and Art Historian at Liberty Hall Historic Site. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History and Curatorial Studies from Brigham Young University. Originally a Utah native, she moved to Kentucky in July of 2024 and quickly became fascinated with Kentucky’s rich American art history.
