Welcome to the 4th event of Framtidsøkonomien, organised by Rethinking Economics Norge in collaboration with Deichman Grünerløkka and sponsored by Fritt Ord.
What if Atlas Hugged instead of shrugged?
Traditional economic theories assume we are all economic man, interested in maximizing our individual utility. However, this assumption is heavily critiqued, and by looking at economic institutions from an alternative and evolutionary perspective, Prof. David Sloan Wilson in conversation with Ellen Stenslie will explore how to challenge conventional economic paradigms and embrace the power of cooperation and compassion.
We will learn from examples of grassroots initiatives and collaborative efforts driving multilevel evolutionary change, exploring the potential power of altruism and its impact on economic decision-making. Can acts of kindness and prosocial be promoted by reshaping economic institutions, creating greater social equity and well-being, or is it naïve? And what role does AI play in this? Wilson criticizes both neoclassical and heterodox economic paradigms, and proposes a transdisciplinary path forward for economics, business and society.
This event is open to anyone with an interest in economics, biology, evolutionary theories, sociology, or related fields, as well as those interested in how the economy of the future can be wired differently for a more just and sustainable future.
David Sloan Wilson is an American evolutionary biologist and a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences and Anthropology at Binghamton University. He is co-founder of the Evolution Institute, and of the recent spinoff nonprofit Prosocial World.
Ellen Stenslie (moderator) is Head of the Academic Advisory Board to Rethinking Economics Norge and works on restructuring business for sustainability.
