Drop by our Education Studio for this display of photographs documenting the lived experiences of people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
This display is curated in collaboration with the Apollo Project, National Gallery of Ireland Youth Panel, WALK, and artist Tania Diaz Miranda.
Speaking on the artworks, Tania wrote: “At the heart of this project lies a profound passion for storytelling, commitment to empowerment and representation. Against the backdrop of the National Art Gallery of Ireland, renowned for its esteemed portrait collection honoring prominent figures in Irish history, Framed Narratives asserts the rightful place of individuals with disabilities within the Irish society. Through this series, we challenge viewers to confront biases and embrace the beauty of human diversity. Each portrait serves as a testament to the strength, resilience, and aspirations of its subject. From job interview coaching sessions to lively art classes, we capture the everyday moments that speak volumes about the triumphs and challenges of living with disabilities.”
The Gallery Youth Panel is a group of young people (ages 16-25) who work together to find, make, and share impactful experiences for other young people at the National Gallery of Ireland. To find out more, contact Apollo Fellow Oisín Kenny ([email protected]) and follow the Apollo Project Instagram page.
WALK, based in Walkinstown, Dublin, provides community-based supports with a focus on engaging in community settings; broadly in the areas of employment, training and community living. The organisation empowers people with disabilities to live self-determined lives in an equal and inclusive society.
